Studienkollege
Introduction:
Studienkolleg is a study program for international students, whose
school-leaving certificate
is not recognized in Germany. This is mainly because of difference between
number of years
in schooling system. So, basically it a gateway to German universities for
bachelor, if you
have 12 year schooling in your home county.
In general, the duration of this course is about a year. Before submitting an
application to a
German institution, one need to complete this course with an assessment test
(Feststellungsprüfung). Even if you have a valid German certificate for
university, the study
of German is required in all Studienkolleg courses. The other disciplines you
take at the
German university will depend on your chosen major
In India, IB Board graduates and JEE Advance qualifiers can skip the
Studienkolleg. It is
not recommended though, as skipping Studeinkolleg will prevent students from
acquiring
personal, social, and communicative skills including organization, teamwork, and
results
presentation.
Type of Studienkolleg:
- G-course (German, social studies, history, German literature): for humanity degrees or German studies
- M-course (German, biology, chemistry, physics): for medical, biological and pharmaceutical degrees
- T-course (German, mathematics, chemistry, physics): for mathematical, science or technical degrees
- W-course (German, mathematics, macroeconomics, English): for business, economics, and social science degrees
- S-course (history, literature, social studies, German): for language degrees
In cooperation with universities, general Studienkollegs will provide the following 5 categories of preparation courses:
- TI-course (mathematics and computer science, natural sciences, German, technical drawing): for technical and engineering degrees
- WW-course (mathematics and computer science, economics, German, English): for economics and business degrees
- GD-course (German, mathematics, design, physics): for design and art degrees
- SW-course (mathematics, pedagogy, German): for social science degrees
In contrast, students at applied-science Studienkollegs have the following four options:

You can choose from the following if you want to enroll in a studienkolleg:
- TU’s Studienkolleg University
- University of Applied Sciences
- Private Studienkolleg Institut
Requirement:
Entry requirements vary greatly among different prep colleges for international students in Germany. For that, you need to check the requirements on the Studienkolleg’s website and mail them if needed. In general, following is the checklist.
- School-leaving certificate
- Grades from previous education
- Language Certificates
- Curriculum Vitae
- Translated copies of the above documents by a certified translator
