Different Stages of Medicine studies in Germany

1.Pre-clinical Phase:

The student is introduced to some of the most well-known theories and subjects in medicine during this phase. These comprise the fundamentals of human anatomy for future therapy advancements.

This phase consists of four semesters, first aid certification, and a 90-day nursing service requirement. It concludes with the first stage of medical examinations, also referred to as the physician examination or Arztliche Prüfung.

2.Clinical Phase:

The clinical stage of the medical curriculum lasts for three years starting in the fifth semester. Additionally, it has six semesters and ends with phase 2 exams. The most important portion of one's medical education in Germany is contained in this section. Internal medicine, surgical topics, neurological and sensory systems, general medicine, and an internship are all studied in this course. These are the fundamental ideas in medicine that anyone working in a medical setting should be familiar with.

3.Practical Year:

After the pre-clinical and clinical phases are finished, the university assigns them to caring for the patients and focuses on other things outside training. Under the direction of the faculties, this supervision is carried out. It enables one to take part in more practical training sessions that will improve their knowledge and abilities.

Each of internal medicine, bedtime clinical training, surgery, and an optional subject must be studied for a minimum of 16 weeks during this phase.

4.State Examination & Approbation:

The last requirements to become a recognized medical practitioner in Germany are the state examination and approval. After the exams for the aforementioned three steps are finished, approval—the regulation of doctor licensing—takes place.

It aims to prove that the holder of such a degree has attained the necessary knowledge and abilities, both theoretical and practical. The student can obtain a medical license in Germany after passing this exam.

This type of practitioner's license is known as an approval, or Berufserlaubnis in German, and it is valid for the holder's entire lifetime.

Length of whole program

Every German university solely offers instruction in German when it comes to medicine and medical studies. Therefore, it mandates that applicants learn German. However, individuals who don't speak German will need to enroll in a language preparation course for an additional year. In such a situation, Medicine in Germany could take up to 7.5 years.

For IB students, one can save around 1 year as they do not require studienkolleg.
