The required amount of money to meet one's living expenses for one year must be deposited into a specific type of bank account known as a "Blocked Account" in Germany. This account also serves as documentation of financial resources when applying for a German student visa.

Additionally, you must have the Blocked Account to apply for:

• for students who are not required to get a visa in order to enter Germany. (Students from Australia, Honduras, Israel, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of South Korea and the United States of America).
• which allows you to stay in Germany for six months and look for a job.
  As soon as you receive your letter of acceptance to the university, you must register a blocked account. You must be able to demonstrate that you can support yourself financially, at the very least for the first year of your studies in Germany. This bank account can be opened from anywhere, including your own country
• A residence permit
• A Jobseeker visa
